Our Goldfoot's Ancient DNA From Neanderthals

Nadene Goldfoot

Through genealogy provided in the Torah, and from what we have discovered today through DNA, Abraham must have had the haplotype of J1, the Cohen gene, because Moses and his brother Aaron had to have had this haplotype being almost half of present day Jews bear this haplogroup and so do many Arabs.  This goes along with Abraham's sons being Ishmael, father of the Arab line and Issac, father of the Jewish line.

Abraham was from Ur, now in Iraq.  His father was Terah.  According to the Jewish calendar, it was the year of 2047 when Abraham was 99 years old and Sarah, his wife, was 89 and Ishmael by Hagar was 13 years old.  Hagar, a daughter of the Egyptian Pharaoh, had been given to Sarah when she had been abducted and taken to his palace.  The Pharaoh had said, "Better that she be a servant in their house than a princess in someone else's."   Since Sarah hadn't had any children, she gave Hagar to Abraham as a wife to bear children.  Thus, Ishmael was born.

Sarah was not completely barren, much to her surprise.    She was 90 when she bore Isaac and Abraham was 100.
However, my own father's line through testing my brother is Q1b1a, of which only 5% of present day Jews are found to  have. I"ve been pursuing our origins and why there are only so few Jews in this haplogroup.

Q's go back to central Asia 15,000 to 20,000 years ago and migrated through northern Eurasia into the Americas.  Along the way they happened to stop and take up residence in Ur, Iraq where Abraham lived.  We originated from far older lines than J1, the Cohen gene of Aaron, Moses's brother of which most Jews belong to.  J1 didn't get into the Fertile Crescent until about 10,000 to 15,000 years ago.  Did we meet up as slaves in Egypt or in Ur?  Were we part of the group of 70 of Abraham's family  that trekked to Egypt during the drought?

Go back 130,000 years.  Neanderthal man had larger eyes than homo sapiens but did not develop his brain power . I think of this man as our prototype.  Our Jewish calendar now has us in the New Year of 5776.  We had a lot of prototypes before the world started as far as Moses had figured.  Cannabalism and human sacrifice were being practiced even as Joshua and the 12 Tribes entered Canaan.  We've come a long way since then.
Neanderthal
I've used GedMatch's Ancient DNA tool and find that my brother and I  have matches in all this ancient DNA listed.  I know from the company,  23and Me,   that my Neanderthal % of DNA is 2.9%.  This program below does not give a % but lists the whereabouts that the DNA comes from and shows the chromosomes and the amount visually. Neanderthals did not live in Africa. They lived mainly in Europe.

Denisovan, later model of Neanderthal.  Denisovans or Denisova hominins are an extinct species of human in the genus Homo. In March 2010, scientists announced the discovery of a finger bone fragment of a juvenile female who lived about 41,000 years ago.
1.  I see through Ancient DNA on GedMatch.com, that Altlai Neanderthal from the Denisova Cave in Siberia, is approximately 50,000 years old.  A female's bone or bones had been tested there.  Q haplotypes come from Siberia, Mongolia and parts of Turkey, especially from the Altai Mountains.  They have been found to finally get to present day Iraq around Ur, where Abraham was from.  Now I wonder if Q1b1a only contains 5% of the Jews because it is the oldest haplogroup and many lines have died out.  American Indians are also Qs, and they are another branch from the oldest one. We didn't match a thing on #8, or #10, 15 or 17 but did match a little in all the other chromosomes.  Evidently they couldn't find out the haplogroup from this female who bears the mtDNA haplogroup.

In the Denisova Cave in Siberia, a Denisova bone of a woman was found which goes back 30,000 years that we matched at least a sliver on all chromosomes except #3, 7,15,  16, 18 and 20.  They couldn't get DNA testing for haplogroups from her, either.

2.  So are the Palaeo-Eskimo from Qeqertarsuaq, Greenland who bear Y dna of Q1a haplotype and a Mt-DNA of D2a1.  A male was tested who went back to 4,000 years, and whose line of Palaeo-Eskimos went back to 2000 BCE (4,000 years ago). We bear genes from this group as well.   An mt haplotype of D goes back 60,000 years ago in NW Asia and then sent out branches into the Americas where it is found in Native Americans.

3.  Another Q line, Q-Z780 Y haplogroup and an mt haplotype, D4h3a, came up as a Clovis-Anzick-1 in Montana, North America of a male.  He was at least 12,500 years old and these haplotypes matches living people today.  Being a Q, this is off the branch of our Native Americans of which the Jewish line of Q1b1a had branched off of long ago before they headed for North America.

4.  The Ice Age had caused humans to head south, and I find we have ancient dna from Leon, Spain, called the La Brana-Arintero of a male that goes back 7,000 years.  He had the Ydna of C-V183, which is found throughout the mainland of Asia, the South Pacific and at low frequency in native American populations.  It originated in southern Asia and spread out in all directions.  It's  found in populations of India today.

Cohens in the first Temple  They are the descendants of Aaron, Moses's brother.  As far as we know, Moses left no descendants but was a direct descendant of Abraham.
5.. There are 10 printed pages of examples of our DNA going back to ancient DNA.  One that caught my eye  is from Ludas-Varju-dulo, Hungary of a male that went back to 1110-1270 BCE where the haplotype was J-M67, otherwise known as J1-today called the Cohen gene.  This bone's age that was found is going back a little more than 3,000 years.   This ancient DNA called BR2 matches living people.  J1  is found to be of the Cohen line-from Aaron, brother of Moses.  It arose 10,000 to 15,000 years ago in the Fertile Crescent and includes not only Jews and Arabs, but Armenians and Kurds as well.  It's found in its highest peaks in Iran and Iraq.  Iraq is the home of Ur, where Abraham lived.  It has been carried to other ports by traders into Europe, central Asia, India and Pakistan.  J2 is found all around central Asia, the Mediterranean and south into India.  While the majority of of men are not Jewish who have this haplotype, the majority of Jewish men have it as our Cohens are J1.  A man who knows he is a Cohen, a fact handed down from father or mother to son, has a responsibility in the synagogue to carry out.  He is a central figure, doing the high priest's job.  He is first to read from the Torah aloud to the attendees.

6.  They found a female in Stuttgart, Germany's cave called LBK whao had  mtDNA was T2c2 and it was 7,500 years old.  This sample matches living people today.  T is believed to have originated in Mesopotamia or Anatolia  10,000 years ago and moved northward with the spread of farming.  It's found mostly around the eastern Baltic Sea and in the Urals.  This is interesting since many Jews lived in these places lately, and were in Germany shortly after the fall of the 2nd Temple in Judah where they had traveled from Rome into France and Germany, the Rhineland as it was called then. Stuttgart is 160.7 km from Worms, Germany which was a big Jewish center, about 1 1/2 hours by car.

We share  ancient DNA from Siberia, Spain, Sweden, Stuttgart, Germany, , Loschbour, Luxembourg, Cambridgshire, UK, Tiszaszolos-Domahaza, Hungary, other places in Hungary, Russia, Estonia, Poland, Czech Republic, Brazil and even the Kennewick  Man  at Washington State, USA who is 8,358 years old and is a Q-M199.
                                                Neanderthal From Israel
The Carmel Caves are on the western slopes of Mt. Carmel, about 20 km south of Haifa.  They were first excavated in the 1920s and 30s.  Later digs took place in the 60s when they studied pollen and fossils.  They had found flint tools, animal bones and human burials in the Caves.

One of the caves is the Tabun Cave or Cave of the Oven.   It was occupied half a million to some 40,000 years ago. First the occupants enjoyed a fairly warm climate shown by pollen traces found.  The melting glaciers that covered large parts of the globe caused the sea level to rise and the Mediterranean coastline to recede.   It has one of the longest sequences of human occupation in the Levant.    A cold, more humid climate prevailed when glaciers formed once more.  This caused the Mediterranean Sea level to drop some 100 m. to its present level.

The remains from the cave were of the Mousterian culture which was about from 200,000 to 45,000 years ago.  They found small flint tools made of thin flakes which were predominate here.  Many were produced by the Levallois technique where they trimmed the flint core before the desired shape of the flake is struck off.  The people's diet was of fruit, seeds, roots and leaves with meat.  The meat was from the gazelle, fallow deer, roe deer and wild boar.  Animals most likely were herded towards the cave and fell into it where they were butchered.  This cave contained the burial of a woman from 120,000 years ago.  It's one of the most ancient human skeletons found in Israel.  I wonder if they've done a dna test on her.  They have on many of the Egyptian pharaohs.

"Hershkovitz told Haaretz newspaper from Israel  that the presence of modern humans at Manot also supports the idea that Homo sapiens sapiens left Africa through the Nile valley, Sinai and what is today known as Israel, striking a blow at competing theories that see our ancestors crossing the Red Sea into contemporary Yemen or the Mediterranean at the Straits of Gibraltar." 1

""Neanderthals were flourishing here 50,000 to 60,000 years ago," Hershkovitz said. "Then, anatomically modern humans arrived from Africa and created a melting pot of evolution."

So as the puzzle goes, "Which came first, the chicken or the egg,"  now we know that what came first to Israel was the Neanderthal and then came the Humans out of Africa. And of importance to us basically was Abraham and the Ivri (Hebrews).   In my article  about Abraham, "Abram/ Abraham was an Ivri (Hebrew) of the 2nd millennium BCE or 1948 BCE according to the Tanach who came from the East with his people and father, Terah, and settled in Ur of the Chaldees which is in today's Iraq.   That was almost 4,000 years ago or 3,963 to be more exact, which fits the Jewish calendar of this now being the year 5776.  Ur was an ancient Babylonian city.   It never said how far east he came from, but of course he and his family came much later than the first humans out of Africa.  This shows that people might have been constantly moving westward who came out of Africa.  Most likely Africa could have been northern Africa.

Letter to Q1b1a (L245) (Q-Y2200) (Q-BZ67) Jews On Our Historic Connections

Nadene Goldfoot
My Neanderthal family,  10,000 years before Q1b1a came along from Siberia, Mongolia or parts of Turkey.  According to 23&me, 2.9% of my genes come from Neanderthals.  Everyone is thought to have a % of Neanderthal except those from Africa as Neanderthal were found mostly in Eurasia and Europe.

Where we (Q1b1a  Y haplogroup made up of Jews who are only 5% of the Jewish population) fit in the family of the Jewish people may be a question in some of your minds.  The fact that it was found by scientists that our origins were in  parts of Turkey, Iran, Iraq and possibly southerrn Saudi Arabia updated by June  2011 can be confusing.  However, that occurrence happened around 15,000 to 20,000 years ago!  That was way before Judaism.

"Neanderthals lived across Eurasia, as far north and west as the Britain, through part of the Middle East, to Uzbekistan.  They lived in Eurasia 200,000 to 30,000 years ago, in the Pleistocene Epoch.  This does not say they were ever in Mongolia or Siberia, but a cave was found in Turkey with remains.

"Hiking up a sheep trail in Turkey, the research team found one cave with a promising base of sediments — deep enough, and therefore old enough, to preserve fossils of the ancient migrants. In a brief survey, the scientists were encouraged when they found stone tools of the type used by Neanderthals between 250,000 and 100,000 years ago." 1

There are caves where they lived in Israel.   Abraham lived only 4015 years ago.  The Q1b1a came along at least 10,000 years after the last Neanderthals so they definitely were homo sapiens.  Moses lived about from 1391 to 1271 BCE.  As far as time goes, that was practically yesterday!

Abraham about to sacrifice his young son, Isaac.  Muslims have changed our epic to sacrificing Ishmael. This story tells us that human sacrifice has come to an end.  It had been done by Canaanites and the surrounding areas.
Abraham was born into the 2nd millennium BCE which was only 4,000 years ago, not 20,000 of the Q1b1a beginnings.

The fact I have found is that Abraham was a J1.  We are not.  How did we pick up this haplogroup?  What do we know about Q1b1a?

Q1b1: 5% of Ashkenazi Jewish men are found to be Q1b, of which is my father’s haplogroup (Q1b1a or Q-L245) and the latest is called Q-Y2200.  Q originated in Central Asia 15,000 to 20,000 years ago and the men migrated through northern Eurasia into the Americas. Q3 became Native Americans coming from a mutation that happened 8,000 to 12,000 years ago. Q1b’s are from the Altai Mountains in Mongolia, Siberia and parts of Turkey. Khazaria (700's-900's)  was thought to  be the home of Q1b’s. Their common ancestor was a man 1,000 years ago.  That would be around the time of 1,000 CE or when Jews were in Germany and France.  Rashi was born in 1040 in Troyes, France and died in 1105.  He lived and taught in Worms, Germany.   He is about the most famous Biblical commentator we have and claimed descendency from King David (1010 -970 BCE).  I claim him to be on my tree according to DNA findings.

Were we from Khazaria, a state that is now a southern part of Russia?  The royal family of this state had converted to Judaism in the 8th century.

Update: 5/10/2012 Q1b1 is losing out in being considered as coming from the Royal family of Khazaria.  DNA expert Rebekah Canada reports that they're thinking maybe G types and R1a1a types more likely candidates.
I doubt that R1a1a is Khazarian as they are found to be a line of Levites..

Double Update: 5/10/2012 from Rebekah Canada:
Is Q-L245 found in modern Arab populations?  Yes

Is Q-L245 found in modern Anatolian populations?  Yes

Is Q-L245 found in modern Iran and Iraq?  Yes

Is Q-L245 found from the modern locations of the Ancient

city of Ur down to the tip of Saudi Arabia and Oman?  Yes

Does that cover the places where ancient Israel, Judah, and

Sumaria were?  Yes.
  • Q1b1a (L245): found in the Middle East, among the Jews, in Central Europe and in Sicily as reported by eupedia.  (see below).

My grandfather, Nathan Goldfus/Goldfoot 1872-1912, Q1b1a haplogroup; surname picked up in Germany before family migrating to Lithuania

Nathan's son, Moshe (Maurice) and his daughter, me in Oregon.
Q-L245 or Q1b1a is the haplogroup of my father's line.  This is very exciting news today

because Abraham came from Ur, and this gives  me the theory that he may also have been

 of this group.

Update: 7/7/13:  I did a tree from the Torah's information and Abraham would have been

the direct descendant of Jacob's 12 sons.  So Moses would have been directly from

Abraham.  Moses was of the Tribe of Levi.  Moses was the 6th generation from Abraham

directly or his 3rd great grandson.

"According to commercial tests conducted by other

 members

of the Jewish Oppenheimer family, the American theoretical

physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer (1904-1967) belonged to

haplogroup Q1b. Oppenheimer played a major role in the

Manhattan Project and is considered one of the fathers of

the atomic bomb.

My first cousin matches up with one male Oppenheimer as 5th cousin.  There are many Oppenheimers, and this one missed my brother and myself in matching segments of our 23 chromosomes.

Update: 5/29/12; The latest news for our group is that our

origins were around Pakistan and India. This must include

the Assyrian Empire.  Mesopotamia was a part of Assyria,

and in that empire sits Ur, which is located today in northern

Iraq. This Semitic Akkadian Kingdom was from the 25th

century BCE down to 608 BCE from the upper Tigris River

in Northern Mesopotamia.

The stage on which Hebrew history takes place is a varied and a troubled place. Hebrew history, as told by the Hebrews, begins in Mesopotamia, in the cities of Ur in the south and Haran in the north.

Our history is that Terah, father of Abram, came with the Habiru, who could have been mercenaries or slaves, use in the Tel el-amarna tables and in other documents of the 15th and 14th centuries BCE.  Many scholars are of the opinion that the word Habiru is identical with Ivri (i) m or Hebrews and some believe that the reference in the Tel el-Amarna tablets to the threat of the Habiru, to Canaanite cities alludes to one of the stages in the Israelite conquest of Canaan.

Mesopotamia was a rich agricultural area, fed by irrigation from the two rivers which give it its name: the Tigris and the Euphrates. Powerful city-states, such as Ur, rose up in this fertile area, and these city-states would eventually become the foundation of mighty empires, such as the Akkadian and Amorite empires.

As you see, much points to Ur as to being our origins.

Abraham's father was Terah, and he had 2 brothers, Nahor

and Haran.  Abraham, first called Abram, married Sarai.

Terah took his son, Abram, and Lot, the son of Haran, his

grandson, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, the wife of Abram,

his son, and they departed with them from Ur Kasdim to go

to the land of Canaan.  they arrived at Haran and they

settled there.

From history on the  Haibru:  the "Habiru" or "Hapiru" had been living in Canaan since at least the reign of Pharoah Akhenaton of Egypt in the 14th Century BC, and probably earlier. The Habiru were apparently wandering nomads who lived among, but were not part of, general Canaanite society. A people by the same name had been first mentioned in Sumerian records as living in Southern Mesopotamia 1,000 years earlier, and like the "Canaanite" Habiru, were nomads who were considered aliens living among the Sumerian society of the region.

Indeed, it is interesting that one can almost trace, in the historical record, a migration of these people from Southern Mesopotamia through central and northern Mesopotamia to Palestine, which is very similar to the route described for Abraham in the Bible.

The difference is that the historical texts mentioning the Habiru are all separated by several hundred years (Ur--2150 BC; north-central Mesopotamia--1550 BC; Palestine--1350 BC), so clearly we aren't talking about the migration of a single family as portrayed in the Bible. Instead, the Biblical narrative of Abraham and the Patriarchs would more likely be a metaphor for a folk migration which took place over a period of 1,000 years.
Joshua depicted entering Canaan at the end of the Exodus of 40 years.  I don't think it was that bad.  On the other hand, some 600,000 Israelites (601,730 to be actual) were being led by him, and it could have been a little daunting for the Canaanites who refused to help but instead fought against them.  The tribe of Judah, from where all Jews came from today, made up 76,500 of them.

We can believe that Moses was given this information in order to put it in the Torah.

We can believe that Moses was given this information by G-d.  When I write, I feel I am in a difference space and time quite often in my concentration.  I get words and ideas I wonder about afterwords and feel I had been helped by a higher power than my own brain.  It is irrelevant how ideas came to Moses since what he wrote has been tested over a huge expanse of time being exceptional.  We still are in awe of what is written and how it still applies.  Today, more students do understand as we also have evolved.

Our Tanakh is full of history, facts, geography, ideas, and one cannot read it like a novel or recipe book.  In our culture, this book has been the epitomy of a PhD degree,  needing very high intelligence to get the meat out of it.  It has been the challenge of the gifted of which many Ashkenazis had congregated in the town of Worms, Rhineland to discuss and deliberate over this special book.

Abraham was born in the 2nd millennium BCE.  His family had come there from the area around the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.  Somehow, that's where we also may have stopped on our migration from parts of Turkey or Siberia or Mongolia.  We met up with the Mesopotamians called the Haibru (Hebrews).

Jewish history (or the history of the Jewish people)" is the history of the Jews, and their religion and culture, as it developed and interacted with other peoples, religions and cultures. Although Judaism as a religion first appears in Greek records during the Hellenistic period and the earliest mention of Israel is inscribed on the Merneptah Stele dated 1213–1203 BCE, religious literature tells the story of Israelites going back at least as far as c. 1500 BCE"  One interesting fact is that Moses did not leave any descendants according to our records.  It was Aaron who passed on the J1 gene with his many descendants as he had many children.  Moses was raised by the Egyptian princess, daughter of the pharoah, and given the best of education.  He could read and write.  It was he who wrote the 5 books of Moses that make up the first part of the Tanakh and is the Torah.  As an aside, .I just want to add that Q1b1a have a lot of writers in their members as found in a leader we had several years ago.  It seemed to be a major skill shared in the group overall.

"Haplogroup Q-M242 is one of the two branches of haplogroup P-M45. Haplogroup Q-M242 is believed to have arisen in North Asia approximately 17,000 to 22,000 years ago.[7] (In another source, 31,400YBP)[3] It has had multiple origins proposed.   Much of the conflict may be attributed to limited sample sizes and early definitions that used a combination of the M242, P36.2, and MEH2 SNPs as defining mutations.  (P-M45:  Haplogroup P also includes approximately one third to two thirds of the males amongst various populations of Central Asia, South Asia and continental North Asia
The basal Haplogroup P* and/or its subclade P1 is predominant among some ethnic minorities in North Asia and island South East Asia." 3
This haplogroup has many diverse haplotypes. There also are over a dozen subclades that have been sampled and identified in modern populations." 2  "Haplogroup Q-M242 may be one of the most widely distributed Y-chromosome lineages in the modern world. It is found in the AmericasNorth AfricaEast AsiaSouth AsiaWest Asia, and in Europe....The frequency of haplogroup Q-M242 in Norway and Sweden is about 3%. It is believed that almost all of these are either Q-L527 or Q-L804. Around 2.5% of Slovak males are in haplogroup Q-M242.
So Q1b1a were in Ur at the time of Abraham most likely.  If so, we also were in Egypt with Jacob's family unit of 70. 400 years later,   we then could have been on the Exodus with Moses and enough of us  lived to be with Joshua and enter the land of Canaan once again and conquer it to live in the parts allotted to the 12 tribes of which we must have been with the tribe of Judah and or Benjamin which adjoined it.  Here we are!  Some of us still are Jews!
